About this record
About this record
Life After Death was The Notorious B.I.G.'s second and final studio album, released on Bad Boy in March 1997, just over two weeks after he was killed in Los Angeles. A sprawling double album, it debuted at number one in the US, and both Hypnotize and Mo Money Mo Problems went on to top the Billboard Hot 100.
Where Ready To Die was raw and claustrophobic, Life After Death is bigger and glossier, moving between polished, sample-driven party records and hard-edged street storytelling. Guests include Jay-Z on I Love The Dough and Bone Thugs-n-Harmony on Notorious Thugs, while tracks such as Kick In The Door, Ten Crack Commandments and Long Kiss Goodnight show Biggie's narrative control and dry wit at full strength.
